Scott's Siu Lum Kuen Family & Youth Program
Curriculum

Stance Training - Stance training is an essential part of developing the foundation in Southern Siu Lum Gung Fu (Shaolin Kung Fu). If you can't stand strong then the rest of your defenses become weak. Good footwork and stances help to set up all the upper body applications. With proper footwork and positioning only then can counter attacks be carried out successfully.

Forms Training - Used to develop a strong foundation, strength, flexibility and stamina. Forms train the necessary skills needed for self defense. They also develop the muscles, tendons, mental focus, and so much more. There are 2 forms for each of the 5 levels of training totaling 10 separate hand forms (see below).

Self Defense Techniques Training - In each of the 5 levels of training there are 35 individual self defense techniques that the student is required to learn, not counting the vast collection of applications that exist within each of the 10 different forms, ultimately translating into thousands of different variations of self defense applications. . Many of the techniques have multiple parts to them, so one technique may actually break into 4 or 5 separate applications. Each technique is a counter to a particular attack. Over time the student learns to draw from any combination of techniques and applications to successfully neutralize and counter an aggressive attack.

Float Sparring - After a student has reached a level of very good control and has spent many hours developing all the other training methods the student will begin training in float sparring eventually gaining the proper skills for free fighting. This form of sparring is in no way related to sport or competitive sparring. It is strictly used to increase the practitioners experience in real life situations. At this level the student will clearly see what skills have been acquired through their diligent practice of all the other training methods.

Qi Gung - Used for developing the energy and strength needed for any adverse situation. This is where the student learns to focus their mind and strengthen the body and spiritual energy for all of life's challenges.

Philosophy & Theory - Used for taking all that the student learns and putting it together in a comprehensive way to apply to every aspect of their life. This is where good training becomes engrained within the students being. We ultimately teach students to use the skills they develop for helping others and contributing positively to their community.
